Luzerne County officials are inviting the public to numerous upcoming events to celebrate National County Government Month in April:

• March 31, 11 a.m.: Pinwheel dedication with the Luzerne County Child Advocacy Center in the courthouse rotunda and south lawn to raise awareness about child abuse.

• April 8, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Open house at Luzerne County 911, 100 Young St., Hanover Township, to recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Representatives from the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, Emergency Management Agency and sheriff’s department also will be in attendance.

• April 11, 10 a.m.: Narcan training sponsored by the Luzerne/Wyoming Counties Drug & Alcohol Program along with the Pennsylvania Department of Health in the courthouse council meeting room.

• April 11, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Guided tours of the Luzerne County Courthouse, starting in the rotunda.

• April 11, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.: County job recruitment event and informational displays in the courthouse rotunda.

• April 11, 6 p.m.: County council meeting in the courthouse council meeting room.

April 12, 6 p.m.: Countywide crime watch meeting in the courthouse council meeting room.

• April 25, 5 p.m.: 40-plus year county employee celebration in the courthouse rotunda.

• April 25, 6 p.m.: County council meeting in the courthouse council meeting room.

• April 25, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Guided tours of the Luzerne County Courthouse starting in the rotunda.

• April 28, 6:30 p.m.: Candlelight vigil sponsored by Autism Awareness of NEPA in the courthouse rotunda

The AFSCME union is sponsoring a food drive to benefit the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen. Nonperishable items will be collected from March 31 through April 11 at collection bins in county buildings.

Diaper collection boxes also will be set up in the county manager’s office and human services building in April to provide diapers for Luzerne County Children and Youth foster children and clients.
