HANOVER TWP. — A dispute between two children at a kindergarten graduation party escalated into an altercation between a group of adults and ended with the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old township man, according to court papers.

Tremaine Divine Jamison, 27, shot Devon Brown in the head Wednesday night on Mark Drive at the Marion Terrace Apartments, authorities say.

Life appeared to be returning to normal for residents of the complex as police searched for Jamison, who faces a criminal homicide charge.

In the neighborhood Thursday afternoon, children could be seen riding bikes and playing outside, neighbors mowed their lawns, and people were out walking.

Thursday’s calmness was in stark contrast to the chaos Wednesday evening when Brown was shot.

“He got killed over kids playing,” one woman could be heard screaming repeatedly.

“I’m so sorry,” a woman said as she broke down on the street near where Brown’s body was covered with a white sheet for over two hours while officers investigated.

Brown and Jamison, 27, of the Harlem section of New York City, were involved in a heated dispute with several other adults after another resident of the complex accused the son of Brown’s girlfriend of punching Jamison’s son, according to a criminal complaint.

The dispute became physical, and Brown retrieved a knife from his residence after someone pulled a pocketknife on him, court papers say. Jamison returned with a handgun, firing a single shot at Brown from 10 to 15 feet away, authorities report.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Wednesday night, the scene was chaotic at times with neighbors shouting at each other, while others — including children — appeared distraught.

Officials have secured an arrest warrant for Jamison through District Judge Joseph Halesey. Police said Jamison might have fled back to Harlem.

He is described as a black man, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue sneakers, tight-fitting blue jeans, and a white long-sleeved shirt.

Police said several witnesses saw the incident between Brown and Jamison, and others recorded it.

Officers are asking anyone who knows of Jamison’s whereabouts, or who may have video of the incident, to contact Pennsylvania State Police Troop P in Wyoming at 570-697-2000.
