Hazleton Area came back from a three-run deficit after three innings to defeat Scranton 7-3 Wednesday in a District 2/4 Class 4A softball semifinal game.

Hazleton Area moved into the title contest against Williamsport, a 6-4 winner over Delaware Valley. The game will be Tuesday at a site and time to be announced.

The Cougars tied the game in the fourth and tacked on a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Makenna Balay and Olivia Williams each had a home run and two RBI for Hazleton Area. Gabriela Terraccino had two RBI.

Terraccino shut down Scranton after the first inning to pick up the win. Ashley Seiwell threw the final two innings for the save.

Tunkhannock 5, Honesdale 1

Defending champion Tunkhannock advanced to the D2-4A championship game with a semifinal win over Honesdale.

Paige Marabell homered for Tunkhannock, which will play Valley View on Tuesday at a site and time to be announced. Gabby Wood added a double, single and two RBI. Ella McNeff singled for the Tigers’ other hit.

Kaya Hannon pitched all seven innings, striking out 12 and surrendering five hits. She gave up an RBI single to Ciara Young in the first inning.

DISTRICT BASEBALL

Selinsgrove 14, Pittston Area 7

Pittston Area put itself back into the game with a big blast and then was eventually eliminated by the same as the Patriots fell in the District 2/4-5A semifinals.

Drew Menendez had a three-run homer in the third to move Pittston Area within 4-3. They tied it 4-4 in the top of the fourth on a solo homer by Anthony Cencetti, only to have Selinsgrove respond with eight runs in the bottom of the inning.

Tyler Swineford hit a grand slam in the eight-run outburst. Ryan Richter added a solo homer as the Seals took a commanding 12-4 lead.

Silvio Giardina and Troy Davis each had a double for Pittston Area, which finished its season at 16-5. Giardina had two RBI. Jeremy Cawley also had an RBI.

Selinsgrove will play North Pocono for the D2/4-5A title on Tuesday at a site and time to be announced.

Scranton Prep 6, Nanticoke Area 0

Nanticoke Area’s season came to an end as the Trojans could only muster three hits in a D2-3A semifinal loss to Scranton Prep.

Lucas Stachowiak, Landon Lore and Bryant Keegan had singles for Nanticoke Area, which finished the year 12-9. The team was missing several starters because of a senior trip to Florida.

Brian Walsh struck out 10 for Prep, which will play Lake-Lehman for the title on Tuesday at a site and time to be announced. Roman Valvano had two RBI.
