Holy Redeemer fell to North Penn Liberty in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A volleyball playoffs on Tuesday.

North Penn Liberty swept Redeemer 3-0, defeating the Royals by game scores of 25-14, 25-18, 25-10.

NPL came into the game sporting a 27-1-1 record, including a 10-1-1 mark in games against competition from outside the state. and controlled the contest from the start, holding Redeemer below 20 points in each of the three games.

Redeemer ends the season with a 19-11 record.

COLLEGES

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Misericordia 4, DeSales 0

Misericordia advanced to the MAC Freedom championship game with a 4-0 win over DeSales at Mangelsdorf Field.

Devyn Anderson scored twice and Jeanna Orfanos added a goal and an assist. Michaela Fasolino had a goal and Emma Przyhocki added an assist.

Alexis Benedetto made four saves in goal to earn the shutout.

The Cougars improved to 11-5-2 while advancing to the title game for the fourth straight season. Misericordia will travel to Stevens on Saturday.

Stevens 2, Wilkes 0

Top-seeded Stevens knocked Wilkes out of the MAC Freedom tournament with the shutout.

The Ducks (14-3-1) scored both their goals early in the game, scoring at the four-minute mark and then again at the 16-minute mark.

The Colonels were out shot 23-9 with goalkeeper Samantha Cecere recording 10 saves against the barrage. Sophomore midfielder Emily Bidelspach led all Colonels with three shots, including a shot on goal.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

PSU Wilkes-Barre 86,

LCCC 78

Senior Khalil White scored a game high 29 points and Junior Ray Pender had 20 to lead Host Penn State Wilkes-Barre to an victory over Luzerne County Community College. Colton Tracey chipped in with 14 for Penn State.

Shah Aurelius and Will Johnson combined for 57 for LCCC.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

LCCC 32

The Lions opened the season with a decisive win at home as a balanced effort was led by 15 points apiece by Victoria Benning and Sheila Carr.

Giana Skaff added 13 and Quiana Vigo had 11 as all 12 Penn State Wilkes-Barre players scored.
