Maya Kornfeld continues to be a solid performer for the Ursinus women’s basketball team.

The 5-foot-5 junior point guard from Kingston and a Holy Redeemer graduate is third on the Bears in scoring with a 13.2 average. She’s averaging 3.8 rebounds with 28 assists and nine steals. Kornfeld has scored in double figure in seven of 10 games and had a season-high 23 in a season-opening 82-73 loss to Albright on Nov. 8. She had a season-high seven assists in a 79-64 victory over McDaniel on Dec. 7.

Kornfeld entered the season having played in 48 games and had 159 assists and 48 steals.

“Maya made an immediate impact since her freshman year,” coach Margaret White said. “She sets the pace for us and really puts defenders on their heels.”

The coach said that Kornfeld worked hard in the offseason to expand her shooting range and become more than a driver and that keeps defenders guessing.

“We have used Maya in different ways off ball screens and she is doing a great job distributing and creating for others,” White said. “As Maya continues to grow as a player, our team gets better.”

The Bears are 5-5 overall and 4-1 in Centennial Conference play after a tough 68-67 non-league loss to Williams last Thursday in the HoopMIA D3 Shootout in Miami, FL.
