The Pittston City Athletics finished the regular season on a four-game winning streak by defeating the Pittston City Red Sox, 12-4.

Erick Pisack struck out four and got the win on the mound.

The Athletics pounded out 10 hits. Ethan Ghannam had two hits and scored two runs. Jacob Giardina had three hits and scored three runs, while Devin Markert added three hits, three RBI and scored two runs in the win. Andrew Skutack and Steve Yanchis each had two hits in the loss.

West Pittston G&S 4

Eric Pisack pitched four solid innings and got the win as the Pittston City Athletics defeated West Pittston G&S.

The score was tied 2-2 after the second inning. The Athletics added two runs in the third when Andrew Hower hit a two-run triple. West Pittston’s Ryan Soto had an RBI single in the fourth. Danny Mendez secured the win for the Athletics in the sixth with a two-run single.

Ethan Ghannam and Cole Ferranti each had two hits in the win. Soto had two hits and Charlie Alfano scored two runs in the loss for West Pittston.

Exeter Nationals 8

The Pittston City Athletics extended their winning streak to three games by defeating the Exeter Nationals in nine innings.

Exeter jumped out to an early two-run lead after John Morgan hit an RBI double then scored a run in the first. Pittston City answered the call in the bottom of the first as Andrew Hower hit a two-run double to take a 3-2 lead. Pittston City added a run in the second inning off an RBI single by Adam Penxa.

Exeter exploded in the third inning with five runs as Jesse Mikoliczyk had a two-run single and scored a run. Jacob Giardina hit a three-run triple to tie the game at seven. Exeter scored in the top of the eighth after Drew Mauk hit an RBI single. Jake Locker managed to score on a throwing error to tie the game. Exeter loaded the bases in the ninth with one out. Devin Markert caught a line drive at third base and completed an unassisted double play to get the Athletics out of the jam.

In the bottom of the ninth, Cole Ferranti scored the winning run on an error. Casey Noone finished with three hits, while Kyle Skutack had two hits in the Exeter loss.

Derek Cunius picked up the win as Dupont VFW took down Avoca VFW.

Cunius struck out nine batters and scattered three hits over four innings of work. Alex Hoban led Dupont with a home run and three runs scored. Matt Soy scored twice.

Will Adrich and Marcus Fuller each hit home runs for Avoca.

Dupont VFW 8

JTD Phillies 6

Derek Cunius launched a walk-off home run, his third home run of the game, in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift Dupont VFW over the JTD Phillles.

It was Dupont VFW’s sixth straight win. Cunius, who also struck out eight batters over four innings of work on the mound, finished the game with seven RBI. Adam Felinski chipped in for Dupont VFW with a hit and two runs scored.

For the Phillies, Jacob Black and Connor Mullhern each had doubles and a run scored.

Dupont VFW 12

Exeter 8

Alex Hoban had three hits, Adam Felinksi pitched four strong innings, and Dupont VFW defeated the Exeter Lions. Dupont’s Junior Girman chipped in with three hits and three runs scored. While earning the win on the mound, Felinski struck out four batters and only gave up one earned run.

Casey Noone had two hits and two runs scored for the Lions.

BOYS MINORS

Pittston City 6

Duryea 6

Duryea’s Dominic Bernardi’s sixth-inning double scored Josh Smargiassi and tied the game. Bernardi went 2-for-3 in the game with three RBI. Smargiassi was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Nick Borgia and Mark Korea each added hits and scored a run. Borgia and Luke Snyder pitched for Duryea. Silvo Giardina led Pittston City with three hits.

Duryea 10

Exeter 5

Geno Scateno’s two-run single in the third proved to be the game-winner for Duryea.

Scateno finished with three RBI. Josh Smargiassi went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Nick Borgia had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Mark Korea tripled and had an RBI. Marshal Gordon scored two runs.

Korea started on the mound pitching into the fourth inning striking out 10. Dominic Bernardi worked the final two innings, striking out two to secure the win.

Marshal Gordon’s third-inning single drove in two runs, capping a five-run inning for Duryea.

Gordon finished 2-for-3 with three RBI. Caden Carey had a hit and two RBI. Luke Snyder and Mark Korea each scored two runs and had an RBI. Nick Borgia and Josh Smargiassi added a hit and RBI. Borgia and Snyder pitched for Duryea, striking out nine.
