Oniesha Clarke won two events to lead Misericordia’s women’s track & field team to the ECAC Championship on Thursday at Westfield State University.

Clarke won the 100 (11.99) and long jump (5.57m) and was named the Outstanding Female Performer of the meet. Kelty Fairchild won the 800 meter (2:14.42) and Reilly Wagner won the high jump (1.72m).

Katie Fairchild was second in the 400 meters (57.05).

Shelbi Jones, Jacquelyn Bamberski, Jill Eberly and Lauren Hause grabbed silver in the 4x800m relay (9:52.08). Misericordia scored 101 points to top the 28-team field. Moravian was second with 84 points.

MEN

The Cougars finished sixth at the ECAC Championships.

Misericordia had 42 points while Farmingdale State led the 31-team field with 85 points.

Sean Luzzi was second at 1,500-meter run (3:58.99) and Juwan Petties-Jackson won silver in the 100 (10.70).

Michael Dube, Tobi Olugbenga, Devin Oyola and Petties-Jackson finished second with a school record 42.33 in the 4×100 relay.

Olugbenga set a school record (1.99m) with a third-place finish in the high jump and Oyola (58.8) was 10th in the 400 hurdles.

BASEBALL

Washington and Jefferson 12,

Misericordia 7

Misericordia lost to Washington and Jefferson, 12-7, in the first game of the NCAA Mideast Regional at Ross Memorial Park in Washington.

Tyler Holzapfel was 2 for 5 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Kenny Jarema went 3 for 5 with a RBI and run scored.

The Cougars will play the loser of Wooster/Earlham at 10 a.m. on Friday.

SOFTBALL

Wilkes’ Staunton named

All-ECAC Division III North

Freshman standout Gracen Staunton was named Honorable Mention All-ECAC Division III North.

Staunton, who was also named First Team All-MAC Freedom, finished her rookie season with a 13-5 record and a 2.54 ERA, allowing 116 hits over 113.0 innings with 11 complete games, six shutouts, 20 walks, and 89 strikeouts.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

Cougars make new hire

Brenna Gallagher was named Misericordia’s new head women’s lacrosse coach.

“I am pleased to introduce Brenna Gallagher as our women’s lacrosse coach,” MU athletic director, Chuck Edkins said. “She has demonstrated a knowledge and passion for the game as well as the desire to help our student-athletes succeed on and off the field.”

Gallagher spent the 2017 season as the graduate assistant coach at Misericordia and handled many of the day-to-day operations under interim head coach MaryKate Stauffer.

The Cougars set a school record for wins at 14-5 and made their third straight appearance in the MAC Freedom championship game.

Misericordia also qualified for the ECAC Championships for the third consecutive season and advanced to the title game.
