PLYMOUTH — A fire that ripped through a structure on West Main Street in Plymouth on Sunday afternoon has left 11 people displaced.
Three firefighters were treated on scene for symptoms related to the intense heat crews encountered while battling the blaze, as temperatures hovered around 90 degrees while crews worked to contain the fire.
Everyone that was inside the structure at the time of the fire, which broke out around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, was able to make it out safely, according to Chief Josh Evans from Plymouth’s Goodwill Hose Co. No. 2.
A number of pets were also rescued from inside the structure.
Crews from Edwardsville, Larksville, Nanticoke, Hanover Township, Kingston/Forty Fort all responded to help fight the three-alarm blaze.
According to Evans, the first calls initially came in as a porch fire, which then spread up to the attic and engulfed the roof of the structure in flames.
The building contained five separate apartments in all; it’s not yet known if the complex will be marked as a total loss, or if some of the apartments in the rear of the building might be salvageable.
The American Red Cross was called in to assist the 11 displaced residents of the structure. A fire investigator was also called to the scene. There was no initial speculation as to how the fire may have started.
