WILKES-BARRE — The city’s police department will take part in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The public can surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction. The one-day effort will bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse.

Collection is completely anonymous and Wilkes-Barre residency is not required. Controlled, non-controlled, and over-the-counter medications will be collected. Liquid products and creams in their containers also will be accepted.

Sharps and syringes will not be accepted.

The drop-off center will be located in the lobby of the Wilkes-Barre City Police Headquarters, 15 N. Washington St. Anyone with questions may contact Sgt. Phil Myers at 570-208-4235.
