EDWARDSVILLE — A 10-year-old boy was taken to an area hospital after being attacked by a pit bull Friday outside the Eagle Ridge Apartments, according to police.

An Edwardsville police officer was flagged down by witnesses and shot the dog after attempts to use a Taser failed, an officer said Saturday.

Police said both the dog and the 10-year-old boy were taken for medical treatment and are expected to all right.

The incident is under investigation.
