LEHMAN TWP. — No explosive devices were found on Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus, said Chancellor Charles Davis in a statement released Friday.

A credible bomb threat found 1:30 p.m. Thursday written on a bathroom door in the Science Center caused the evacuation and closed all roads entering the Back Mountain campus Thursday.

According to a post on the college’s website, the message warned bomb was in the building and would detonate some time before noon Friday. Pennsylvania State Police responded to the scene with bomb-sniffing dogs and swept all campus buildings, according to the post.

“As of noon on March 4, the immediate threat and campus emergency has expired,” Davis said in the written statement. “Campus will remain closed through 9 a.m. Saturday, March 5. The K-9 units swept the Science Center, surrounding areas, and the campus parking lots. No explosive devices were discovered.

Davis commended the campus community, the Lehman Township Police Department, Lehman Township Emergency Management and the Pennsylvania State Police K-9 units for their quick response and cooperation during the campus’ emergency.

“I am extremely grateful the emergency situation was resolved quickly, efficiently, and without detriment to those involved,” he said. “We will always put the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff and campus visitors first at Penn State Wilkes-Barre.”
