The following are recent Lackawanna County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: “any inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.” The information is taken from the inspection database at www.eatsafepa.com. Postal addresses used here are as listed on the state’s website, and may not correspond to the municipalities in which facilities are physically located.
Genovese’s Diner, 253 Route 435, Clifton Township, March 14. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: A plastic cup is being used as a scoop in the ice bin at the soda dispenser at the counter. The cup was removed and replaced with a scoop with a handle. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in some of the freezers. Old food residue on the barrel and blade in the grinder in the prep area. The grinder was disassembled and cleaned. Old equipment, plates, cups, tools, etc. are stored in the unused deli case. The shelf under the counter hand wash sink is stained. The shelf was cleaned. Ice buildup on the shelves in the Tappan upright freezer by the kitchen exit door.
Kmart #3264, 3382 Birney Plaza, Moosic, March 14. Opening inspection; in compliance. Violations: One dented canned item observed in customer self-service shelf is intended for use or sale in the food facility. Receiving door located in the back storage area of the food facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents and other animals.
Lucca, 802 S. Main St.,Taylor, March 14. Complaint inspection; in compliance.
Montage Exxon/Montage Beerworks, 3 Montage Rd., Moosic, March 14. Regular inspection; in compliance.
What’s Brewin’ 6 Pack Ale Shoppe, 937 Moosic Rd., Old Forge, March 14. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Ware-wash sink has a hose attachment that is hanging below the flood rim of the sink and not an appropriate air gap.
Chocolate Creations, 1520 Pennsylvania, Ave., Peckville, March 15. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Water storage containers, in the prep area, are not labeled with the common name of the solution. Food employees observed in prep area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets or hats. Non-food contact surfaces (freezer door handle) not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of chocolate residue. The hand-wash sink in the front station was blocked and not accessible at all times for employee use. Fly tape observed hanging above chocolate shelving in storage area. Soap was not available at the hand-wash sink in the front station.
Monticello School, 134 School St., Scranton, March 15. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Lights are not shielded or shatter proof over the storage area. One ceiling tile is missing in the storage area and needs to be replaced.
NEIU 19, 110 Betty St., Eynon, March 15. Regular inspection; in compliance.
Kay’s Italian Restaurant, 894 Drinker Turnpike, Moscow, March 16. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food ingredient storage containers, in the kitchen and pizza area, are not labeled with the common name of the food. The containers were labeled. Two rusted cans of Deep Harvest Ocean Clam Juice on the storage rack in the dishwasher area. The cans were discarded by a food employee. Dust and debris on the cans on the storage rack in the dishwasher area. Dust/webbing on the shelves. The cans and shelves were cleaned. Buildup of old product residue and flour on the bottom of the pizza low-boy used for tray storage.
Moscow Elementary Center, 851 Church St., Moscow, March 16. Regular inspection; in compliance. Old food residue in the drain stem of the kettle adjacent to the fryers. The drain stem was cleaned.
Augustine’s Club 17, 518 N. Main St., Old Forge, March 16. Follow up inspection; in compliance. Violations: The deflector plate in the ice machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have black residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Person in charge turned off machine, emptied and cleaned during this inspection. Hood filters have an accumulation of dust, grease and webbing. Non-food contact surfaces (tray guides for pizza rack and plastic cover) not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Buildup of static dust observed on fan guards in walk-in freezer and reach-in refrigerator.

Lyric’s, 76 S. Main St., Carbondale, March 17. Type 2 Follow-up inspection; in compliance. Violation: Food facility does not have available chlorine sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate mechanical dishwasher sanitizer concentration.
Maroni Pizza, 1345 St. Ann St., Scranton, March 17. Regular inspection; in compliance.
Scranton High School, 63 Munchak Way, Scranton, March 17. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Observed dust collecting on the exhaust hood filters. One hood filter is missing above sandwich grill area. Observed buildup of black dust on ceiling vents in storage area. Buildup of dust and debris on floor under mechanical dishwasher in ware-wash area. Receiving door located in the back area of the food facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents and other animals.
Subway #54001, 741 Scranton/Carbondale Hwy., Unit 5, Archbald, March 17. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view.
