BUCKS COUNTY — Before a failed double-suicide attempt by the couple charged with the rape and murder of 14-year-old Grace Packer, Jacob Sullivan penned a suicide note to his “babies.”
Sullivan, 44, of Horsham, along with Sara Packer, 41, conspired in the commission of some of the alleged crimes, Bucks County detectives allege in court papers. Both were arraigned on Sunday on a slew of related charges.
On Dec. 30, Katherine Albright, identified in police reports as another girlfriend of Sullivan’s, called 911 to report that she found Sullivan barely conscious and non-responsive in the bedroom of his home in Horsham, and that she believed he had taken an overdose of pills.
While on scene, Horsham police recovered a hand-written suicide note from Sullivan.
The note reads:
I love you all so much. You are the only people that I have always been able to count on. I’m sorry that I am taking the coward’s way out, but I don’t have the strength left in me.
People want to judge and lie and break me down. They have.
I can’t exist with Sara in jail and those (expletive)-lying pigs and the whore media have made it impossible for us to live.
They don’t care how many lives or laws they break. I know you will always know that we had nothing to do with this no mater what lies they tell. I’m sorry to leave you. Remember all I’ve taught you. Be brave, stand tall and do your best to be stronger than I was.
I love you,
Daddy
Officials have not confirmed that Sullivan has any children.
Notations on medical records indicate both Sullivan and Packer were admitted for attempted suicide by drug overdose and that Sullivan told hospital personnel that they had entered into a “suicide pact” before taking the prescription medications.
Police say that Sullivan later confessed to hospital personnel specific details about the the murder of Grace Packer, whom Sara Packer adopted at age 3, that had not previously been released to the public, leading to the couple’s arrest and arraignments.
Sara Packer worked for the Northampton County Children, Youth and Families Division for adoptions from 2003 to 2010, when she was suspended, the Associated Press reported.
Grace’s biological mother said she trusted the system would give her child a “wonderful home” and she’s very angry, according to the Associated Press.
Rose Hunsicker said she gave her daughter up for adoption in 2004, and hadn’t spoken to Grace since, but always hoped Grace was in the hands of a good family.
Hunsicker said she knows justice will be served.
Both Sullivan and Sara Packer were denied bail and are being held in the Bucks County Correctional Facility.
