SCRANTON — The required number of prospective jurors have been pre-qualified in the capital murder trial of Jessie Con-ui following a month-long selection process that saw hundreds interviewed.

The final five prospective jurors were approved Monday, bringing the total number of pre-qualified candidates to 71. The jury pool now filled, the process of seating 12 jurors and six alternates will begin June 1.

Con-ui, 40, is accused of beating and stabbing federal corrections officer and Nanticoke native Eric Williams, 34, to death inside U.S. Penitentiary Canaan in 2013. The trial will feature a guilt phase and, if convicted, Con-ui could be put to death should the jury decide the sentence is warranted.

The 71 qualified prospective jurors will be summoned to appear in U.S. District Court in Scranton on Thursday, June 1, at 9:30 a.m.

The selection process began April 24.
