WILKES-BARRE — The city continues to search for additional funds to pay for the Solomon Creek wall reconstruction.

At its work session Tuesday, city council was given a preview of a resolution to designate Mayor Tony George and Controller Darren Snyder as the officials to pursue a $500,000 flood mitigation grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

A second resolution designates them to pursue a Greenway, Trails and Recreation grant.

Both resolutions will be on the agenda for council’s regularly scheduled meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The city is awaiting $4.4 million from a bond issue to pay for replacing damaged sections of the creek wall. The bond issue set the principal at a maximum of $52 million and most of it will be directed toward restructuring debt.

Apart from the resolutions the city issued, there is a Request for Proposals for engineering/architectural services on the wall project. The work entails pre- and final design, construction inspection services and the preparation of drawings, technical specifications and bid documents.

The city will review the RFPs, rank the respondents and ask them to submit a cost proposal that would be paid through a negotiated lump-sum contract.

This part of the project will be paid with a $500,000 Local Share Account grant the city was awarded in March.
