The local musician known as Jane Train remains in critical condition in a Gainesville, Florida, hospital, an associate says, after a Friday crash that killed one member of a metal band and injured several others.

Train, 48, whose real name is Janet Rains, is from Pittston.

A close associate who wanted to remain anonymous contacted the Times Leader on Monday to provide an update on Train’s condition.

“She is not in a coma; however, she is not fully conscious. She had surgery (Monday) morning and did very well. She is in very good hands. Please pray for her and the entire Adrenaline Mob family.”

Train, best known as lead singer of 80s cover band M80, was acting as New York-based Adrenaline Mob’s tour manager.

The band and crew were traveling to a show in St. Petersburg, Florida, in an RV and GMC Sierra pickup when both vehicles pulled over to tend to a flat tire on the RV. A tractor-trailer carrying cooking oil later veered off the highway and struck the vehicles, according to the Gainesville Sun and other outlets.

Adrenaline Mob bassist David “David Z” Zablidowsky, of Brooklyn, New York, was killed in the crash.

Robert Dressler, 45, of Plains, who was the band’s soundman on the tour; and Jason McCole, 41, of Wilkes-Barre, who was driving the RV, were also injured, according to the Sun.

Lyn Carey, who worked with Train for over a decade as the booking agent for M80, was devastated by the news.

“She’s a strong, talented soul. I just know her strong will is going to persist and help her pull through,” said Carey, who also knows Dressler.

Marine stops to help

According to a statement posted to Facebook by Adrenaline Mob singer Russell Allen, he helped pull Train and McCole from the wreckage before the RV became engulfed in flames. Allen sent special thanks to passer-by and Marine Lance Cpl. Patrick Dumon for his “bravery in assisting me.”

Dumon administered first aid to McCole after stopping at the scene, he told the Sun.

Lead guitarist Mike Orlando’s girlfriend, Dana Griffo, who was not involved in the crash, posted that Orlando, Allen, drummer Jordan Cannata and Dressler were “banged up but ok.”

A post on WKRZ’s Facebook page with a screenshot of a message reportedly posted by Train’s sister detailed how to send her a card.

The post says to buy a card with a butterfly or angel, to write a message filled with “inspiration and love,” and to address the card to: Patient: Janet Rains, UF Health Shands Burn Center, 1600 SW Archer Road, Gainesville, Florida, 32610.

Her sister stressed not to send flowers, because they carry bacteria.
