WILKES-BARRE — A three-alarm fire caused extensive damage to a vacant double-block house at 77-75 Carey Avenue late Saturday.
Firefighters arrived on scene around 10:30 p.m. to heavy smoke and flames in the rear of the house, said assistant fire chief Ed Snarski.
The fire was so intense at one point that firefighters crawled “on their bellies” out of the structure, Snarski said.
There were utilities to the house but no there was no furniture inside, he said.
Adjacent houses at 79 and 71 Carey Ave. sustained heat damage to their exteriors. There were no injuries and a fire inspector will be on scene later today in an attempt to determine the cause, Snarski said.
