KINGSTON — Wyoming Avenue traffic was slowed Monday morning due to a garbage truck fire.

Kingston Fire Chief Frank Guido said crews were dispatched to the area of 534 Wyoming Ave. shortly after 9:30 a.m. He said the truck was filled with cardboard and other recyclable material.

Extinguishing the fire, Guido said, meant unloading the truck’s contents.

“The only way to do it right was to empty the truck, and we had to empty it right on the (Wyoming) avenue,” he said.

A firefighter could be seen on top of the garbage truck sifting through the contents before the truck was unloaded. The garbage truck also had visible char marks near the top of the compartment where the garbage is held.

Guido added the fire appeared to be accidental, and the driver reported the contents were inside the truck for a few days.

No injuries were reported.
