A Flash Flood Watch alert has been issued for Luzerne, Lackawanna, Pike and southern Wayne counties by the National Weather Service in Binghamton, New York.

The Flash Flood Watch for portions of Northeast Pennsylvania will remain in effect Thursday night and Friday morning, when a low pressure system will spread showers and isolated thunderstorms across the area.

Locally, heavy rains will be possible in the Poconos, as well as in the Wyoming and Delaware valleys, which may be enough to cause flooding, primarily in poor-drainage areas such as in urban locations, according to the NWS.

Rainfall of 2 inches or more in a few hours would be enough to cause flooding, the NWS said.

Widespread stream flooding is not expected and no flooding is expected along the major rivers. This event is rated as severe, and is possible, though not certain.

The Flash Flood Watch will be in effect from 8 p.m. this evening through Friday morning.
