A hearing on the conduct of former state Attorney General Kathleen Kane included testimony from a local state Representative.

State Rep. Tarah Toohil, R-Butler Township, participated Monday in a hearing at the state Capitol in Harrisburg as part of a House investigation into the conduct of Kane. Kane was found guilty of nine charges against her in a perjury and obstruction case related to an information leak on a grand jury case.

Though her son asked the judge for leniency, Kane was sentenced to 10-23 months in jail.

Kane also lost her law license because of the charges.

Toohil is a member of the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Courts, which is determining if Kane should face Articles of Impeachment. Even though Kane resigned in August, state Rep. Todd Stephens, R-Montgomery, subcommittee majority chairman, said impeachment is the only mechanism available to ensure she never holds elected office again.

Among those who testified was Attorney General Bruce Beemer, who replaced Kane after she stepped down. Committee members also heard from former and current employees of the attorney general’s office on possible changes that could be enacted through legislation.
