NANTICOKE — Pennsylvania State Police are searching for the suspect in a homicide which happened in Nanticoke early Wednesday morning.

Late Thursday evening, state police announced they are looking for Anoine McNeal, 32, in connection with the shooting death of Brandon Smith outside a residence at 185 W. Church St.

Smith is believed to have known McNeal, of 921 Scott St., Wilkes-Barre, before the incident occurred. Officials said they believe the shooting was drug-related.

At 9 a.m. Thursday, forensic pathologist Gary Ross performed the autopsy on Brandon Smith, the Luzerne County coroner’s office said.

Ross ruled the cause of death was a result of multiple gunshot wounds; he ruled the manner of death a homicide.

According to court documents, state police are charging McNeal with one felony count each of criminal homicide, possession of a firearm, criminal use of communication and one misdemeanor of tampering with evidence.

McNeal is believed to be armed and dangerous. Anyone who has information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Pennsylvania State Police, Wyoming Barracks, at 570-697-2000.
