WILKES-BARRE — Commonwealth Court Judge Joe Cosgrove, who was appointed by Gov. Tom Wolf last year, has announced that he will seek a 10-year term on the court.

Cosgrove has been a member of the appellate court since July.

“I believe my experience as a judge and lawyer make me uniquely qualified to continue serving on the Commonwealth Court,” Cosgrove said in a press release. “I will be ready to start working for the citizens on day one.”

Cosgrove said in the release the position carries with it an important duty to the people of Pennsylvania.

“No one who lives in Pennsylvania goes through a day without feeling the influence of a decision made by the Commonwealth Court,” Cosgrove said. “It is an awesome responsibility. One I take with the utmost seriousness, and dedicate my complete energy to each and every day.”

Before serving on the Commonwealth Court, Cosgrove served on the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas from 2010 to 2012, having been appointed by then-Gov. Ed Rendell to serve after the “Kids for Cash” scandal.

Cosgrove also served as chief counsel to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and counsel to the Administrative Office of the Pennsylvania Courts.

Cosgrove received his undergraduate degree, law degree and a master’s degree in theology from Notre Dame University. He also has a master’s degree in studio art from Marywood University in Scranton.
