HANOVER TWP. — A hit-and-run on the Sans Souci Parkway has left a man dead, and police believe he was actually hit by a second passing vehicle that also sped away.

The victim was identified as Oliver Grosspietsch, 66, of Shickshinny, who was struck while attempting to cross the roadway.

Township Police Chief Albert Walker said the pedestrian was struck at approximately 6:20 a.m. in the area of the Parkway Plaza.

Authorities are looking for a white-colored Hyundai that initially struck Grosspietsch and fled the area traveling south. This vehicle should have damage to its front passenger side and a missing passenger-side mirror, police report. A second unidentified vehicle then struck Grosspietsch again and also fled traveling south, an investigation indicates.

The Sans Souci Parkway was initially closed in two different locations — in the area of the Parkway Plaza where the incident occurred and in the southbound lanes from Kings Road to Main Road. The roadway reopened by later Friday morning, according to Walker.

Anyone with information on the Hyundai or the other vehicle involved is asked to call the Hanover Township Police Department at 570-825-1254.

Hanover officers and firefighters were assisted by the State Police Records and Identification Division, the Luzerne County Coroner’s Office and PennDOT.

State Police and Hanover Township police gather evidence Friday at the scene of a fatal hit-and-run on the Sans Souci Parkway.
