I grew up in the Wyoming Valley, but I now live in Washington, D.C., where we have had an interesting week.
President Donald Trump is rapidly destroying his limited credibility, and each day brings a new level of absurdity. In the past week, we have seen evidence that he interfered with an FBI investigation into his campaign, then fired the FBI director and lied about his reasons for doing so. He followed this by carelessly disclosing highly classified information to Russia. This is not a man with the character or the temperament to be president.
I may not be surprised or disappointed by Trump anymore, but I am profoundly disappointed with the lack of courage shown by his political allies, U.S Rep. Lou Barletta, R-Hazleton, in particular. Barletta was one of Trump’s earliest and most consistent supporters, and he was a crucial swing vote on the Republican healthcare bill, changing his vote to yes after a meeting with the president. Remember, this is a bill that would cut more than $800 billion from Medicaid and would cost 24 million people their health insurance over the next decade.
As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Barletta has an obligation to speak up and advocate for an investigation. I encourage all of his constituents to let him know if you agree. Phone numbers for his five offices can be found here: https://barletta.house.gov.
