WILKES-BARRE – Police have issued an alert for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a teenage boy on Hill Street this evening.
The 14-year-old boy was shot at about 7:20 p.m. while walking home from the Catholic Youth Center with a friend, according to Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis.
At 9:17 p.m., Luzerne County 911 put out a BOLO – be on the lookout – for the suspect and suspect vehicle involved in the shooting.
The vehicle is an older model burgundy Ford Taurus with two individuals. It was last seen on Park Avenue in Wilkes-Barre and involved in a fatal shooting in the 100 block of Hill Street around 7:20 p.m.
The suspect is a black male with a thin build, approximately 5’10” with a light beard and wearing a black hooded top or hoodie.
The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
Luzerne County Acting Coroner William Lisman said the boy was pronounced dead at 7:55 p.m. at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township.
An autopsy is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday.
At the crime scene, Salavantis said police were “investigating every possible person that may have some information on the matter. … From what we understand, the (shooter) fled from the scene.”
Salavantis she could not release any more information at this time, including the victim’s name, because an investigation is continuing and not all of the victim’s family has been notified.

Salavantis, who arrived later at the crime scene, said she could not release any more information at this time because an investigation is continuing and not all of the victim’s family has been notified.
